The last time I tried to drive up the dirt road to Big Bear from Yucca Valley I couldn't. Why?

Because some idiot built a house on the road and fenced it in about halfway between Yucca Valley and Big Bear. I don't know if it's still this way or what. However, I was coming down to Yucca Valley on 4 wheel drive roads from Big Bear this day in my wife's old 1989 Toyota 4runner which had a great 4 wheel drive which I needed for this. there was one stretch quite steep when I needed low range 4 wheel drive to keep a constant pressure on the car through the engine to the wheels because putting on the brakes might have been disastrous and we could have rolled many times down this steep hill applying the brakes on this particular steep hill. However, then I got to where some idiot had blocked the road with a house and a fence (just to be an idiot likely) and realized I had to turn around and go back up to Big Bear after spending an hour or more just to get there from Big Bear down this old road I used to travel with my father in his truck from 1960 until he passed away in 1985.

But, then I reached a place going up where I was worried about breaking an axle because of the 3 foot deep hole dug by previous 4 wheel drives. So, we got out and searched the hills there for another route up to Big Bear and found a route that could work that someone else had used to avoid this axle breaking section of the road. So, we got out of there by the skin of our teeth that day. I couldn't believe someone blocked the dirt road going between Yucca Valley up through pioneer Town to Big bear like that.

I wonder how many people were stranded for days on that road because of this?

But, it likely would be fatal only when it snowed if you tried to take this road then.
