No, the historical Comte de Saint Germain is not still alive; official records show that he died on February 27, 1784. His death and subsequent burial were documented in the parish register of Eckernförde in what is now Germany.
However, the reason you may have heard otherwise stems from the intense mythology surrounding him:
The Legend of His Immortality
- Age-Defying Rumors: During his life in 18th-century high society, the Count was a brilliant polymath—fluent in multiple languages, a skilled violinist, and a talented chemist. He frequently hinted that he had mastered alchemy and possessed an "elixir of life," leading contemporaries to claim he never looked older than 45.
- Post-Death Sightings: Because of his mysterious nature, rumors spread that he faked his death. People claimed to have spotted him during the French Revolution in 1789, and later in the 19th and 20th centuries.
- Theosophy Beliefs: In the late 1800s, spiritualist movements like the Theosophical Society popularized the idea that Saint Germain was an "Ascended Master" who achieved physical immortality and continued to influence human history from the shadows.
(Note: If you are thinking of a different French figure with a similar name, Claude-Louis, Comte de Saint-Germain, a French general and Minister of War, he also passed away in the 18th century, dying on January 15, 1778).
