2 years ago about this time I watched several people almost fall off the edge of the Grand Canyon and die

The most likely time you are going to see people die at the Grand Canyon is summer time at sunset. People gather along several places for the amazing sunsets there. But, as more and more people come onto shelves of sandstone with dubious states of co-ordination, (many of them not used to the 7000 feet altitude which can make someone pretty "euphoric and unrealistic" if they aren't used to all the changes of that much altitude or the dryness or the remoteness, especially either city people not used to heights or rock climbing or people not used to hiking or being at altitude or being euphoric at what they are seeing easily leads to deaths like we have seen the last few years.

So, if you go there and you are hot and tired from riding all day in a car or truck or bus to get there just remember you are at 7000 feet (many have never been this high before in their lives) and it might be 100 degrees there in the summer and if you don't realize just how altered you are from your normal lives it's pretty easy to wind up dead falling off a cliff either because you misjudged how slippery sandstone can be or some tourist group 10 people away got nudged and you were the one against the canyon so you died. Think very carefully about your physical and mental state but even more importantly stay away from the edge until you have your "Sea Legs" or "Mountain Legs" or "Canyon legs" so you and your group all stay alive to return home and come back again the South or north Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Basically, you have to BE in your body and not living inside your cell phone to be sure to survive if you are at the edge of the Grand Canyon today or any day.

And then in the winter time there is often snow and fog there too so often you cannot even see where the Canyon begins and ends. But, in winter relatively few people go then so even if someone fell you might not even see it happen or anyone else see it either until someone found the body or bodies later.

The elevation of the Colorado River, at the bottom of the Canyon, averages out to around 2,200 feet (670 meters). The average elevation of the south rim is around 6,800 feet (2,072 meters) with the highest spot, Grandview Point, being 7,400 feet (2,255 meters).
