This actually happened to a couple I personally knew in North Carolina. First there was a gas leak in their home so they were told to shut off their power to their house which they did. However, what killed them was their automatic generator coming on unexpectedly which caused their whole house to blow up and kill them both when it ignited the gas leak and blew up the house with them in it.
The point I'm trying to make here is that if you have a Gas and Electric home you might not want your power to come on automatically with a gasoline or diesel generator during a power outage as a precaution. Have it set so you take a flashlight if you need to and start the generator manually when it is safe to do this.
However, if you have an all electric home with no gas at all this likely wouldn't be a problem for you.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
