Beach Hazards along Nothern California Coast

Where I live on the coast they said that it's possible to have 10 to 14 foot waves until 8 pm tomorrow along with Sneaker Waves. Also, there is a small craft warning because of the large storm coming through from the north West from Alaska. It's the first big storm of the season so far this fall.

However, if you aren't used to storms on the Coast on the beach maybe the important thing to know is don't go out on rocks to take pictures of the big waves because sneaker waves can be deadly to your health and survival.

I remember one time with my daughter that I was on a beach near where I live in the winter and she said, "Dad. A Sneaker wave is coming jump up on the rocks from the beach. So, on the rock my feet were then 4 feet above the beach. But, then the sneaker wave hit and it came up to my waist and it was everything I could do even that high up off the beach not to be swept out to sea. And I'm someone who has lived next to a beach of some kind since I was born in Seattle most all of the time. So, beaches and surf is in my blood since around 1950 from Seattle to San Diego and now the San Francisco area and I lived in Glendale from 1956 until 1969 and I drove my 1956 Ford STation wagon from Glendale to the beach on weekends a lot with over 10 foot surfboards hanging out the stationwagon back then. So, I'm very familiar with what an ocean and beach can do to you both good and bad.

So, if you aren't a strong swimmer (or even if you are) just remember if you are swept out to sea because you were up on a rock (where you can't even run from the waves) you have about 10 to 15 minutes before you start hallucinating from Hypothermia and then you can't think straight and then you are dead. The ocean in a storm in the winter is about as unforgiving as a small plane is and maybe moreso. So, please remember this if you read this and weren't raised along the ocean like I mostly was.
