Essay After 30 years of not eating meat, I’ve made some unexpected discoveries

What's interesting to me is I spent my first 30 years of life being a Vegetarian because my father had been a vegetarian since he turned 18 in 1934. He was a vegetarian and Valedictorian of his High school Class. he became a vegetarian in 1934 for health reasons.

Also, I likely wouldn't be alive today if I hadn't been raised a vegetarian for a variety of reasons. However, the drawback was that my parents didn't believe in vaccinations so I got whooping cough and almost died of that. Even when I started eating some chicken and turkey only It's still less than 5% or less of my diet even today. I don't eat red meat at all and once a year or so I eat fish like Crab or lobsters or something like that.

So, like him I had about 32 years of not eating any meat of any kind at all. I still have one friend who hasn't ever eaten meat in his whole life and he is 73. His only medicine is sublingual B-12 from Trader Joe's to prevent pernicious anemia from being a vegetarian all his life. But, no health problems other than taking sublingual b-12 under the tongue every day.

When I had an angiogram at age 50 when I had a heart virus the doctors had never seen anyone with as clear of arteries and veins as me in their  lives. They said my arteries were cleaner than most teenagers who ate meat when I was age 50.
