What we did to survive 10% unemployment in 1980

We bought land  2 1/2 acres off the grid for around 8000 dollars at 4000 feet on mt. Shasta. Then we built an A-Frame and lived off the grid pretty much for 5 years from 1980 to 1985. Then we home schooled our kids because it was too far from the nearest school system for those 5 years. I figure it saved us around 60,000 dollars or more in rent then (which would likely be 100,000 to 150,000 dollars in rent today) for a reference because this is 44 years ago now. (1980).

Though land is much more expensive now, you might figure out a way to do this too like we did. Trump is going to make a financial disaster area of this country with the policies he is saying he will enforce. So, finding way to make things cost less so you can actually eat and survive is a really big thing now like it was in 1980 once again.

To rent something for 5 people that is decent now (anywhere in California pretty much) you would have to spend a minimum of 2500 a month here now. 2500 a month for 60 months is 150,000 dollars.
