As a young person one of the hardest things to develop for me personally was equanimity towards all beings in the Universe

  • Equanimity (Upekkha): Developing a clear-minded and tranquil state of mind that is free from bias, attachment, and aversion. It allows us to view all beings equally, without distinguishing between friends, enemies, or strangers.
  •
  • Why? Because for me I was raised in a religion that basically told me that only the members of my religion (at that time 10,000 to 30,000 people worldwide) were actually going to heaven.
  •
  • This tended to separate me from everyone else sort of like they were almost Animals in comparison to the people of my religion growing up.
  • However, as I became 8 to 10 years old and watched all these people die one by one because they wouldn't go to doctors at all (sort of like Christian Science) I began to have my doubts about what they were telling me about only 10,000 to 30,000 people going to heaven.
  • At this point I began to develop equanimity towards all beings not just humans but also all beings on earth and throughout the universe.
  • This has served me well starting about age 12 to 15 onward in my life.
  • The feeling of equanimity is very healing in all ways and allows one to progress much much faster on their spiritual path to enlightenment.

  •
  • Why does equanimity help one progress so much faster towards enlightenment?
  • Because in the end there is ONLY ONE Being in the Universe GOD and we are all apart of that one being. So, if you believe you are separate from any other life in the universe then you are in denial of being in the Oneness of all of God's Creation in the past, present and future throughout the universe.
