My experience with long Government shutdown in 1995 in December (Clinton and Gingrich shutdown)

It was both good and bad for me.

Here is what happened to my present wife and me.

We wanted to get married in Yosemite National Park at the Chapel there but there is a 1 to 2 year wait usually to be able to reserve time to do this.

However, then the government shut down and everyone's plans for Yosemite were cancelled as the park closed down (as all the national parks do during a shutdown) (even in Hawaii).

So, we realized since everyone's plans for Yosemite were cancelled that we might be able to get married during one of the openings between closings of the government. So, we called and asked for December and they said "Yes" which was wonderful for us. So, we were able to get enough rooms at the Yosemite Lodge and to reserve the Chapel also to get married in December of 1995 and we were also able to reserve our place at the Awahnee Lodge where president Kennedy and his wife and Queen Elizabeth I have stayed to for our wedding reception which was really nice too.

then it snowed and we were staying at the Ahwahnee Hotel after our wedding reception there and we were worried about getting to San Francisco Airport about 5 hours away by car. But, luckily we were driving my wife's 4 wheel drive 4 runner then so we made it out okay to the Airport.

But, that was the good part. Then from Waikiki Beach where we were staying at the Sheraton there for a week we got a fly and drive so we could visit Volcanoes national park and the Big Island of Hawaii. However, when we went there the government had shut down again so the park was closed. So, this was kind of sad for us because we couldn't go see the lava coming out of the ground as it does most of the time in the park.

So, there can be good things during a government shutdown and bad things too. So, it's important to remember to be adaptable enough to benefit from a Government shutdown if you can. Because it always causes many many bankruptcies of government employees. The security of a government job these days is always in jeapordy because of how Trump does things lately.

How is all of this going to turn out?

It's hard to say but until Trump agrees to continue Obamacare and Medicare so everyone ill doesn't just drop dead in the next year it likely is going to stay shut down for a long long time.
