Strategizing about Travel

In 1999 I had traveled to Aosta, Italy with my mother and 10 year old daughter and then 25 year old son and his likely same age friend who had just gotten his physics degree from UCSC in Santa Cruz, California. We had rented a motor home in Munich where I picked up my son and his friend who had been traveling around Europe on a Eurail Pass which is an inexpensive way to travel and see Europe for young people. In England they have a different pass called a BritRail Pass if you are going to travel there by the way.

So, since I had to get the Motor Home back to Munich where I rented it I dropped off my son and his friend with their backpacks in Aosta, Italy and we (my mother and daughter and I) traveled back to Munich to return the Motor home which was a 5 speed diesel 6 passenger motor home. Then we flew to London and rented a car and went south to visit Glastonbury and other sites and my daughter and I went to a Broadway type show too before we flew back to San Francisco.

However, today it is different. Today we were trying to go to southern Italy around Venice maybe and we realized that it is out of season to do that and most restaurants are only open during the summers there for tourists. So, though we might get a hotel we might not have restaurants to eat at. Though I suppose we could rent an Air BNB my daughter and her 1 year old baby are traveling with us and this is an added travel complication too. Plus I'm 77 years old and my wife is 70. So, it's possible we might cancel the Italian part of our trip which might mean I don't get to see any part of Italy while I'm still alive. However, when I think about this most of the world will never see Italy or Europe for that matter too. So, maybe I should just count myself lucky to have seen so much now of England, Scotland, France, Germany, Switzerland and now Austria. So, yes. my wife and I and my daughter are very lucky to have been able to visit all these countries and my wife has been to Italy a few times before I met my wife too.

So, maybe I just need to leave well enough alone and be satisfied with all these countries I have visited since 1999.

By God's Grace
