Many places in the east are 20 to 30 degrees below normal and the opposite in the West Even in places like Montana where temperatures north west and south west are 10 to 20 to 30 degrees higher than normal. Very STrange. The polar Vortex is really punishing the East Coast at this point in a way I haven't seen in maybe 20 years or so. For example, I traveled to Redding on Monday and on Thursday for personal business. The last we were traveling all the way home to the coast. However, we hit traffic (which we don't ordinarily do going south so after leaving at about 10 am we didn't get home to the coast until 9 pm which is about 3 hours later than usual because of traffic in Sacramento and Stockton. However, it would have been even worse if we traveled directly through the SF Bay area (maybe one to two hours more.
Also, in Redding the two times we went there the first one on Monday was for an appointment and we were worried it was too hot for the dog in the car because we had to leave her for around an hour during this appointment and it was 78 degrees which we couldn't really believe this time of year. Also, when we went through REdding and I got my hair styled at a friend's house there our dog could stay outside but it was even warmer then at 80 or more but she could stay in the shade and be okay.
So, the weather isn't just strange in the North East of the U.S. it's also Strange in the opposite way all over the northwest and south west of the U.S.!
This is the temperature range of the lower 48 states as of about 11:30pm Pacific time Saturday night.
