If you are not fully trained regarding what that vehicle can and will do then you are dead from that gun (car on autopilot).
Even I who have worked on cars all my life until I was in my mid 40s continuously since I was 6 years old and know how cars work inside and out am very careful of using an "Autopilot feature".
However, it is also true that I have rented cars in North Carolina and Oregon and Austria and used "Autopilot types of features on multiple vehicles around the world successfully.
However, I compare using "Autopilot" features similar more to flying a plane than anything else. It's sort of like taking off and putting your plane in autopilot in this sense. However, in the air there are usually few planes to worry about as long as you are careful and at the right altitude and going the proper direction at those altitudes as prescribed by law.
In a similar way if you don't understand what an Autopilot Feature will actually do in all circumstances you likely soon will be dead.
The scariest thing is braking and steering on Autopilot even for me an experienced user of Autopilot features on all cars and trucks I have rented or own myself.
And when I first bought our 2022 Subaru Ascent with "Autopilot" features similar to Teslas I scared my wife and myself pretty bad several times with her screaming at me while driving from California all the way eventually to Banff and Lake Louise in Canada and back through Washington State and finally back to the San Francisco area of California then in June of 2022 just after buying this car. We drove off and on for about 5 weeks straight from SF to Tahoe to Teton National Park to Yellowstone national park and Glacier national park and Banff and Lake Louise too.
But, if you don't know what you are doing it would be sort of like flying a plane without a license.
The way I use "Autopilot" features is I imagine a 5 year old in my lap steering my vehicle to begin with. Because this is what you are actually dealing with. So, if you are not supervising every moment then you are likely dead soon. Because a 5 year old steering your car is eventually going to get you killed if you aren't really present in every moment.
The best that can be said for "Autopilot" features is that it's physically easier to drive your car long distances. The problem is you have to be even more vigilant in new ways to do this mentally and emotionally. So, if you don't realize this fully then you are just dead and that's all.
