The AMC Javelin is an American "pony car" manufactured by American Motors Corporation (AMC) across two generations from 1968 to 1974. Designed to compete with the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro, the Javelin became a dominant force in the SCCA Trans-Am racing series. 

Generation 1 (1968–1970)

• Body Style: A classic, understated "long-hood, short-deck" coupe with an aggressive restyle in 1970

Engines: Ranged from a 232 cubic-inch inline-six to powerful V8s like the 343 and 390 CID.
Notable Trims: The SST (Super Sport Touring) offered higher-end luxury (woodgrain dash, reclining seats), and the 1970 Mark Donohue Edition featured specialized aero and performance specs. 

Generation 2 (1971–1974)

• Body Style: Longer, wider, and distinctly more muscular, featuring flared wheel arches to accommodate larger racing tires.
• Engines: Offered inline-sixes and massively powerful V8s, including the top-tier 401 CID V8 (6.6L) producing up to 335 horsepower.
• Notable Trims: The Javelin AMX replaced the standalone two-seater AMX, bringing a high-performance, Trans-Am-inspired look with aggressive cowls, spoilers, and heavy-duty suspension. 

Motorsport Heritage

Built on a philosophy of "performance is survival," AMC relied on a legendary racing partnership with Roger Penske and driver Mark Donohue. This synergy led to SCCA Trans-Am Manufacturer Championships in 1971, 1972, and 1976.
