I was going through a lot then as many people my age were in 1970. Everything was changing a lot especially if you lived in places like California on the coast where I did. So, I had met again a girl I knew in Santa Fe when I had attended the "I AM" school then but she was a year or two younger then and so at the time she seemed to young for me. However, in 1969 at Shasta Springs she had grown up a lot since 1966 when I graduated and she was there in the Mt. Shasta area for a Spiritual Conference there in the church I was raised in and since I had recently broken up with a girl I had planned to marry in my church then I took her out to Lake Siskiyou with a friend and his girlfriend swimming. So, we became an item there at least in Mt. Shasta. Well, by fall of 1970 we hadn't forgotten each other and I drove out there in my college 1966 VW Bug. But, I still owned my 1968 Camaro too that I bought while working in the computer industry in the Los Angeles County area when I was making a lot of money before returning to college.
So, the general idea was we were thinking about getting married then in Santa Fe, New Mexico. However, when I arrived there the church there didn't want us to get together and started praying against our relationship because this church was very conservative and I was considered a wild California boy by their standards. So, in the end I realized since her whole family of many brothers and sisters were in this church it was the point of wisdom not to separate her from her family. So, I bowed out to protect her from all of this.
But, she owned a new AMC Javelin which was a pretty cool car like my Camaro was. However, I didn't drive my Camaro to Santa Fe, because gas would be too expensive for me then in 1970 as a college student at that time in my life. So, I drove my 1966 VW Bug that got 30 miles per gallon always and I even brought a couple of young people. (a couple and their dog) so they could help me with gas to the Rio Hondo Commune in Taos, New Mexico with me then. I can still remember driving through a snow storm at night to get to Santa Fe then driving through Flagstaff, Arizona then. It's amazing what you can survive as a young person when you are only 22 years old and a college student then. (both physically and emotionally).
