The latest computerized car we got was in 2022

At the time we wanted to drive for about 5 weeks to go to Lake Tahoe, then Teton National Park, then Yellowstone National Park, then up towards Glacier National Park then up towards Calgary but eventually bypassing Calgary because of Traffic to drive to Banff National Park and to Lake Louise which is a beautiful Turquoise colored Lake caused by the slow grinding of the glaciers.

However, I had wanted a self driving car since I had ridden in my Cousin's Tesla Model S in 2016 when he went from zero to 100 miles per hour in a few seconds. I wasn't and still am not ready for an all electric EV simply because I don't like dealing with the electrical radiation of riding in a vehicle like that without enough protection from it like most cars still are now. Besides I don't see having an all electric vehicle practical yet unless you stay in California, Oregon or Washington where there are enough recharging stations to make it practical. However, in California Tesla and Rivian charging stations are basically everywhere now so you can drive easily from San Diego to Seattle in an electric vehicle and not be afraid of not finding a charging station.

So, what I wanted was a car that could drive itself which I tested thoroughly which we found during Chipageddon in Glendale where they actually had 12 vehicles to choose from as this is the largest Subaru dealership on earth I believe. So, we got a Subaru Ascent then with self driving capabilities which is likely the most automatic computerized car I have ever owned so far which can drive itself in many different situations. However, learning how to use the system was nerve wracking for both myself and my wife. But, over the next 5 weeks I began to master the right use of it.

For example, I usually turn it off on a freeway while passing large trucks that are on my right. Why?

Because the automatic driving feature often moves you back and forth in your lane so you often get just too near semi trucks for comfort. So, often passing trucks if I need to I turn off the self sterring feature when I pass large semi trucks on the freeway for safety.

One of the funnier things that happened is when we first ran out of wiper fluid and the car sent my wife a text that it needed more windshield wiper fluid. But, it hasn't done that since then which is okay too with us because it's pretty obvious when you no longer have windshield wiper fluid.

So, the point of this article is that now we have almost entirely computerized cars in every way especially if you have an EV like a Tesla it's like driving an Apple Computer and sometimes it is like that even with

our Subaru Ascent too.
