The basic idea behind Long Life Practices is that people who help other people survive and prosper should have their lives lengthened so they can continue to help more people survive and prosper in all ways so that it becomes a chain reaction of helpfulness throughout all civilization that helps all people in whatever ways makes the world a better place ongoing.
The two initiations that I presently know of for Long Life in Tibetan Buddhism are:
White Tara Long Life Practice
And
Padmasambhava Long Life Practice
IF you aren't familiar with Tibetan Buddhism Tara and the 21 Taras take the place in Buddhism of Quan Yin in Japan and Mother Mary in Christianity the mother of Jesus. So, Tara is the embodiment of Divine Mother in Tibetan Buddhism.
Padmasambhava was a Mahasiddha from Nalanda University that took the Buddhist Dharma from Nalanda University in India at that time to Tibet and King Trisong Detsun at that time.
So, the basic idea behind a Long Life Practice is to extend the lives of the more helpful people on earth so that they can make the world a better place for all.
