However, what is called often cruise control with automatic braking is the bees knees. In other words I consider this to be one of the best things ever invented for a variety of reasons.
However, automatic steering is another thing entirely. And every driver I have talked to pretty much agrees with me about this.
If you rely on automatic steering completely and not yourself then winding up dead could be the outcome.
Why?
Because it will shut off without any warning whenever it gets nervous like when the corner is too sharp or it's too steep going up or going down.
However, like I said the cruise control with automatic braking is wonderful. However, I set mine at 4 car lengths for safety (mainly my safety and anyone in the car's safety and the safety of any cars around me in front, in back or to the side when I have it on.
Another problem with automatic steering is a robot is driving your car (your steering) so it tends to go back and forth in the lane sort of more regularly. Then it has this feature where it will steer against a cross wind which IS a good feature EXCEPT when you are on a freeway and passing a semi or other truck you don't want to be inches away from this truck AND the robot driving your vehicle doesn't care that the truck is there inches away from you because it's objective is to drive back and forth across your lane as it navigates forward steering for you.
So, after 5 weeks traveling from California up to Lake Louise in Canada and back I realized when I'm passing a truck I really need to turn the automatic steering off when I'm doing this and then re-engage the automatic steering AFTER I pass a big truck or other obstacle to my right so I can steer as far away from the bus or Semi Truck as possible in my lane.
Other wise the wind compensator will fight me for control of the steering wheel and this can be very dangerous.
So, unless you take charge of the automatic steering ahead of time it may put you in a ditch somewhere with a semi truck on top of you.
This is the problem of automatic steering. Either you take charge of it or it will eventually put you in a ditch.
So, be sure to think all this through before you turn automatic steering on in any vehicle you own or drive.
