What was amazing to me when Studying "The American Revolution" by Ken Burns on PBS?

That it was more of a Civil war to begin with than anything else.

So, it was a lot like now in how it was in many different ways.

The 2nd most amazing thing was that Slaves fought for England more than they fought for the United States. Why?

Because the British offered them freedom and the the American patriots did not (generally speaking).

The other factor was the Native Americans who didn't want Americans to move and colonize in the future further and further west beyond the 13 colonies. So, often they organized and fought the patriots too.

And some of them had built American types of cities and the American Patriots burned all these cities and wealth of the Native Americans so they starved and died a lot from this.

Also, the reason it was fought the way it was is that General Washington KNEW that he didn't have to win this war. He only had to not Lose it. Why?

Because it was a war of attrition because for example many ships were lost full of British Troops and Hessian Soldier Slaves from Germany bought by the British. So, as all these ships and soldiers and their supplies sank at sea from Storms this was incredibly expensive for the British to try to replace all these ships and men to fight the Colonists (called the Patriots then).

Another factor was that many people's wealth (especially the wealthiest Americans was tied directly back to England and so they wanted to remain a part of England and not be separated from England in any way.

So, these people killed the patriots and the patriots burned their houses and lands down and so it was more like a Civil War in this sense too of poorer Patriots killing the Rich English people who had major economic ties to England and burning down their homes and destroying everything they owned.

So, just like most wars this was a major mess and everyone killed everyone. It wasn't just soldiers against soldiers, civilians killed each other all the time of every class and group outside of any formal battles between soldiers all the time.

So, this was a major mess somewhat like now more of a Civil War than anything else.

All of this is very surprising to me to study now!

So, though our present Civil War is more demonstrations and less killing it likely could easily move to an outright Civil War at any point in time just like it all did spontaneously then too during the American Revolution.
