Here's the problem as I see it:
Unless the trade war is permanent, eventually (sometime between 1 month and 5 years the Trade war (at least as far as Trump is concerned) should be over as soon as he stops being president (this would be logical) maybe.
So, if you own an American Business, how do you look at all this?
Do you risk everything and invest all kinds of money to sell more things to people in the U.S. that China used to sell to the U.S. when you know that the trade war with China could end (AT ANY POINT) and you might lose your investment if you invest money into your business under these circumstances?
Think about all this in a practical Way!
However, maybe you are an already existing business, and you might just tool up a little to take advantage of this "Windfall profits time" while China can't sell stuff to your American customers and you invest just a little to make more money while you can until the Chinese start selling to Americans without the Tariffs in place in the future.
This might work for some companies as long as they know that these sales are likely temporary.
However, then there might be some patriotic Americans who decide to buy American no matter how little the Chinese are selling their products for in the future. This could work for some American businesses too.
But, unless American businesses are very very careful during the Trade war they could over invest and then be out of business if China resumes selling to Americans their products.(like during their orchestration of Trump's impeachment or other ways to remove Trump from office.)
Here's the thing: Xi might see removing Trump from office is necessary for his survival as leader of China (any way possible) and because China is almost as rich as the U.S. he has literally unlimited funds to do this (in any way possible).
However, this would have to be secret in order for XI to save face in this.
If you consult "Sun Tzu's "The Art of War" maybe you will figure it out.
