Russia taking Crimea is like Saddam Hussein taking Kuwait

However, since Russia is a member of the Security Council of the United Nations there will be no joint military group response to Russia from many nations like there was to Saddam Hussein in Kuwait.

So, in the long run this could mean that Russia (and other countries too) might feel that both the UN and the U.S. and Europe are basically toothless in regard to this sort of thing and we might see all sorts of borders change over the next 20 to 50 years because of this dangerous precedent in Crimea and Eastern Ukraine. In the case of Russia right now Russia is again massing troops on the border and aiding Russian sympathizing rebels despite being censured against doing this by the Russian Congress.

IF you are interested in hearing more about this there is an interesting interview with the Swedish Foreign Minister with Fareed Zacharia on his show on CNN today. Nations like Sweden and others are much more interested in becoming NATO members which would summon the NATO alliance of armies if this happened to them from Russia like is happening to Ukraine now.

This is the present NATO alliance of countries. If one of these countries is attacked by any nation all these countries would respond with their militaries.
