IF it wasn't an election cycle maybe the fragmentation of the Republican Party into 2 or more parties might be a good idea because so many elements hate each other right now. But, I'm not sure exploding the Republican party during an election cycle is good for the country right now.
So, Trump may have just "BLOWN UP" the Republican party because of what he said about Muslims. Even Dick Cheney was upset with what Trump Said (and that's really saying something)
Republican Senator Lynsey Graham basically said something like: "The voters should tell Trump to Go to Hell!" which was the strongest thing I heard anyone say. It was also recognized that such a position against a whole religion would also prevent Trump from being sworn in ever as President because it goes against the constitution.
Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said that Trump's views go against the conservative position of the Republican party.
So, will the party explode? Will Trump be forced out of the Republican party? It's hard to say at this point.
Any way you look at it Trump is destroying the Republican party both in the U.S. and around the world as long as he is leading in the polls.
