In other words this wolf likely wasn't in it's right mind and as a result extremely desperate and near the end of it's natural life.
However, animals or people who are desperate and out of their minds often are the most dangerous of all simply because they will not exhibit "normal" behavior which is what is going to throw everyone off and make them sort of hysterical in a situation like this one which is extremely rare.
A normal wolf would first be the member of a wolf pack that survives by taking stragglers from herds of deer, elk, or moose mostly. So, this lone wolf was likely too old and crazy to fit in with any pack of wolves at this point and was likely a week or a month or just days from dying alone in the wilderness from ill physical and mental health when it was euthanized by rangers nearby this campsite. So, likely it was good for the wolf it was euthanized because it's death wouldn't have been pretty the way it was going anyway.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
