First of all it uses digital signals which are much easier to boost than the old fashioned ones before digital. Digital Signals being voice broken down into zeros and ones makes all this feasible and possible.
The next layer that makes all this possible is GPS satellites which were invented because of how the Magnetic north and south poles is now (since at least the 1960s and 1970s) moving too fast. (But, this could mean we are going into a geomagnetic reversal or excursion. So, if you are interested in that I have found that also interesting to study. One interesting thought is that ice ages often are connected to Geomagnetic reversals or excursions in various ways too. I think the main reason we are not hearing more about this is that as far as I know it hasn't been decided fully whether we are in a geomagnetic excursion or a geomagnetic full reversal. Both are problematic because it will cause genetic changes in all dna life on earth (both would) above 50 feet underwater or 10 feet underground.
So, humans would also be mutated in various ways by all this too over the next 10,000 years or so and might look much different than we do now.
So, the invention of GPS satellite and the ability to send digital sound that can be easily re-amplified together created the potential along with microchips of having cell phones for everyone on earth.
What happens why I make a call to another number in the U.S. or around the world?
The signal is sent from your phone designated by the number you dial which is converted into zeros and ones (digitized) and the signal searches for the number you want worldwide or nationwide depending upon the protocols your number invokes.
So, basically your phone is saying "I want to talk to a phone designated as this digital number. Please find it's location for me!" And so every Cell tower in the U.S. or overseas tries to locate the cell phone you want. If it is found and it is on for receiving calls then it rings right through to the nearest microwave cell phone tower to where that phone is from the nearest cell phone tower where you are calling from. So, if someone answers the computer systems have been searching for that phone all across the U.S. or world and then you can speak to each other depending upon the clarity of the call from the locations of the two cell phones.
But, without GPS satellites included in this system your phone would never be found because it is the GPS satellites that actually find your phone and contact the cell phone towers where the two phones are that want to speak to each other.
Every 30 seconds to 1 minute when a cell phone is one it sends out a signal saying: "I'm such and such a number, I'm on and ready to receive a call. This is noted by Main frame computers connected to both cell phone microwave towers and GPS satellites which also allows telephone calls to work from one cell phone to another cell phone. The signal sent every 30 seconds to 1 minute is often called a "Ping". So, cell phones while on "Ping" every 30 seconds to 1 minute to notify the computer systems that they are on so it is relatively easy for the computer main frames to find them when calls need to be made or received.
