I realized that I'm putting some spoilers here. The best thing I can say is this is very very adult so I wouldn't have your kids watch this unless you are there to counsel them because it is a very adult theme. Either way this is likely going to traumatize younger children if they watch this unprepared and even then I wouldn't show this to a kid under 12 for a variety of different reasons.
So, don't read anymore unless you aren't going to watch this movie or you have already watched it.
This is a really interesting movie. It reminds me in some ways of "The Producers" which at one point goes along a "Hitler" way of thinking portrayed by Will Ferrell in that movie when he writes I believe "Springtime for Hitler" as a Broadway musical. This one is about a boy who is "Hitler Youth" sort of like how a Boy Scout would be today in the U.S. with a U.S. point of view whereas Hitler Youth are brainwashed down a Hitler point of view then during World War II only in Germany between 1940 and 1945. His mother is "Resistance" but cannot turn her 10 year old son away from fantasizing about Hitler being his best friend. But, because they are in Germany during World war II it's helpful to have him as "Hitler Youth" because it's a good cover for her.
I would recommend this movie only be watched by adults who can deal with multiple realities though. Otherwise it might be confusing for a child to watch this unless a counseling session is had with your child either before or after or both.
If you want to see how Hitler brainwashed his soldiers and children to hate Jews this is a good movie to understand that better from a brainwashing Social Psychology experiment point of view.
It is important to understand that the average person today is light years ahead in sophistication from people then. Even in the 1950s I found most people very uneducated and naive and racist and shallow thinking mostly here in the U.S. and very ethnocentric at that time looking back from how I saw things in the 1970s as a college student and from the present as well.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
