the financial gap between married couples and single people aged 25-34 has widened into a chasm, with married couples worth nearly nine times as much as singles. That's a big jump from 2010, when marrieds were still worth four times as much as singles.

In other words: "Why wouldn't you want your income to be 4 to 9 times greater than it presently is?"
OF course another way to look at this is you have two married people often college educated both working and making a lot of money and since it costs the same to rent a place for one as it does for two or more, then it is economically better to be married than not to be married.
For me, when I grew up I knew many many people getting married at age 16 or 18 years old. (not that I was ready until I was around 25). But, many people did this often just to escape their parents who often tended to be more difficult in the 1950s and 1960s because generally people were much less educated and more likely to be ignorant in all sorts of ways then (50s and 60s).
So, if two like minded sensible people get married often times they become very financially successful quite quickly, especially because this is who companies like to hire (someone married) and the married person almost always gets the promotions over single people too.
