The primary reason is that the needs of men are not addressed in public colleges and universities today at all.
By men I'm primarily focusing on Heterosexual men (the ones that have girlfriends and marry women).
So, when men enter college and see that none of their needs are met in any useful way they tend to drop out of college rather than just listen to BS where every other minority gets rights while all theirs are taken away.
This was happening even when I attended UCSC in Santa Cruz, California in 1989 and 1990. I was really shocked (and I was a business owner and father and married at the time. I can imagine how awful an experience this would be for most men who are young and single. It would be enough to make many young men move into their parents basements and become lifetime computer gamers which is also happening.
So, they drop out of college because it isn't useful to be there for most heterosexual men and they do something else instead.
This is why there are more college educated women than men in the Workforce.
Yes. this is too simplistic and this is only the tip of the iceberg but it's also why Trump was elected President too.
