Because attacking U.S. bases could be the permanent end of the present government in Iran that has existed in this form since the Shah of Iran was overthrown by Khomeini I think around 1979? When I looked it up on line that is what is said. The Shah of Iran was overthrown in 1979.
So, attacking any U.S. bases could make sure (especially with Trump as president) that Iran as a government in the present day ceased to exist at all. So, attacking U.S. bases likely would be suicidal for the present Iranian Government because they cannot even handle what Israel is doing now at all it appears.
