Because unless you have access to controls of a vehicle in an emergency (or at least some human does) then your life might be over that day. It sort of reminds me of people riding these little electric scooters all over. They are really really dangerous and many people don't realize just how dangerous they are mostly because of those little teeny wheels. If you ride a motorcycle or a bike you have more chance of survival if anything bad happens but those little wheels if you even hit a small rock will flip you forward at 30 miles per hour into a stop sign or curb and you could be dead or maimed for life.
I sort of see Robo Taxis the same way as these little electric scooters. They are both death traps and I will never trust my life to one if I can help it.
However, in a real life or death emergency I might change my mind so I could survive whatever is going on in my life then.
However, often we would all do almost anything given an emergency bad enough.
NOTE: However, if I was allowed to sit in the front with the ability to apply an emergency brake or steer in an emergency then this might be acceptable to me in a robo Taxi like this worldwide. also, you wouldn't want to be locked into one of these things on a hot day if it broke down either where you could cook to death. Same on a freezing day if the system went down and you couldn't open the doors and get out.
So, I see robo taxis as an accident waiting to happen and for ignorant people they are going to die or be maimed a lot by these things.
But, i suppose the real question might be: "Will more people die in robo taxis or on motorcycles on the freeway or in these little electric scooters you see in bigger cities?
I don't have the answer to this question but I think it's a question worth asking.
