I saw a tree be hit by lightning near Castle Lake and so I went back to the lake to get a 5 gallon bucket of water to try to put out the fire

As I was driving down from Castle Lake (across from Mt. Shasta and near Lake Siskiyou) I saw lightning hit a tree and start a fire. So, I drove my window van back up to the lake and got a 5 gallon bucket of water and my shovel and hiked through the trees and manzinita to try to put out this fire because it became a problem for Forest Service Firefighters.

When I reach the tree I saw it looked like a barber pole in that it had blown off the bark in a corkscrew fashion on down to the ground where it had lit a fallen tree into a fire that was laying there. So, the standing tree wasn't on fire but a fallen tree next to it was. So, I Poured the water on the fallen tree trunk on fire and used my shovel to try to put the fallen tree out before it spread. Luckily after I had worked about 1/2 hour on this the Forest service Fire Crew showed up to help me put it out.

I really like how pristine Castle Lake is so it was really important to me to get this fire out so it would still be here for my children and grandchildren in the years to come.
