If you actually listen to what he said he was just repeating what the news had already said which was that the Assassin was MAGA just another version of MAGA than Charlie Kirk.
This is what was in the news at that point.
However, since then much more has been learned than that and I think what Bill Maher said hit the nail on the head which was something like: "The Assassin needed to be in a straightjacket just like most assassins. This guy was a Furries Porn Fan (which bespeaks of bestiality). Also, though he was registered to vote he didn't vote and was neither a Republican OR a Democrat. So, at the very least this assassin seems not to have any kind of Grounded handle on reality (at least the reality that most people live in here in the U.S.).
So, the point is that Kimmel was only repeating what the news actually said and that's all (what was available in news at that time). Was it insensitive? Likely, but it was also factual and not made up from what people knew at the time.
