The problem is up to 100 or more people climb Mount Shasta up various routes every day during the summer. Though most people would have climbed Saturday or Sunday so they could return home and work on Tuesday by driving back home today some people I would say somewhere between 100 to up to 500 mostly inexperienced climbers likely climbed Mt. Shasta today
The problem is there are so many potential things that could go wrong any summer:
1. Rock falls because of the steepness that you might not see until the rocks hit you in head at 60 to 80 miles an hour coming down the mountain.
2. Altitude sickness for people who don't speed up their breathing soon enough and try to breathe like they did at sea level
3. people climbing the mountain whose health or mental or emotional state will not allow them to survive the climb (there are a lot of people potentially like this but most people get rescued by others before they die on the mountain.
And now Today:
4. smoke at altitude that will impair everyone's breathing that gets into these smoke clouds that are mainly right now above 10,000 feet in altitude.
Here is the altitude and more on Mt. Shasta which I climbed to the top August 1970 with three friends.
