The weather has been quite odd here in Northern California the last few weeks

For example, in the last few weeks we had temperatures that didn't go below 67 degrees even at 4 am when I woke up. This is more like what happens in Hawaii than here where here in NOrthern California  night time temperatures even in the summer are usually 50 to 59 degrees Fahrenheit to the point where 95% of households don't even have air conditioning at all along the coast. So, temperatures of 70 or even 75 degrees are often unusual any time of year with maybe one day of 80 to 85 degrees and you likely are never going to see even 90 degrees ever because by then this triggers the fog to come in off the ocean.

So, the flash flooding in Southern california where the 2 year old boy died is far south of here nearer to San Francisco but the effects on the weather are very strange and more akin to something you might see in Hawaii where it is extremely humid (85% to 96% humidity) and night temperatures even this week might be 65 degrees which is very unusual this far north.
