From Philosophy like Socrates, Plato and Aristotle and everyone after them came all the sciences one by one.
Philosophy is about asking questions and those questions often result in sciences when you get the right answers to those questions.
Religions in many ways are like Getting Drunk on Beer and Wine or Whiskey where you just numb out and stop asking all questions for awhile.
Questions that we can formulate and ask often keep us alive. For example, without Philosophy and then Psychology and then Cultural Anthropology I likely wouldn't be alive now. Why?
Because I needed to learn to ask more questions about everything, especially my parents religion. I was raised as a Creationist to the point where when I went to Glendale College where I lived and I took a required Social Science Course for transferring up to a 4 year college as a junior I found out that kids believed in Darwin's theory of Evolution. This was extremely upsetting to me in 1966 in the fall when this happened when I first attended College. It was upsetting to the point where I left college and got a full time job then at 18 nearby in Hollywood in the mail room of a travel company next to the Hollywood freeway.
Then my mother needed an operation and my father and mother didn't have health insurance because they owned their own small business as my father was an Electrical Contractor then. So, I worked to pay for my mother's operation and didn't return to college for the Winter and Spring Semester. So, I worked there about 1 year and returned to college in Fall of 1967 after paying for my mother's operation.
But, Philosophy was really helpful starting around age 21 and 22 when things were not going well for me so I took some philosophy Classes and got A's in all those classes. Then I decided to take a full load of classes again and I wanted to become a psychologist and I attended Palomar College and San Diego State University then.
So, Philosophy led to psychology which led me to figure out what I was doing wrong and I realized I had to let go much of my pride to survive in a physical body here on earth. My father was a very proud and intelligent man and I realized I wasn't my father so for me to stay alive I had to find a different way to survive because he had been Valedictorian of his Senior High School Class and though I got good grades in High School and College the way my father was was not me in this sense.
So, for me studying Philosophy and then Psychology and then Cultural Anthropology actually literally saved my life so I could live past age 25.
Pride isn't very useful if it kills you as it does many young men who join the army to die in a foreign war because this is an honorable way to commit suicide.
So, Philosophy and Psychology and Cultural Anthropology might save your life like they did me.
Also, Comparative Religion helped me a lot in studying all the religions on earth and comparing them to each other too intellectually.
So, stay alive! Don't die because you cannot be what your parents want you to be.
In the end you can only be yourself anyway.
By God's Grace
