"There are old pilots and there are bold pilots but there are NO old bold pilots"

This is actually a true statement. My wife grew up being a heavy weather sailor on her father's yacht which just means they enjoyed sailing in a storm because it was more interesting and challenging and life changing. People used to say: "Isn't that dangerous what you are doing? And she would reply: "Not half as dangerous as piloting a plane" (which is true).

How do most pilots die while flying or better said:"Why do most pilot die flying their families?"

Most private pilots are private pilots only on the weekend and a weekend pilot is a dangerous pilot because of this. Often they go up alone flying.

However, a plane with one person on board handles totally different than a loaded plane with your family and luggage.

So, if you take off in plane at the angle of attack (steepness of the climb of the plane) and your angle of attack is too great for that weight "Your wings stall and you crash with your family and luggage on board.

and this happens more often than anyone wants it to.

So, in this sense a weekend solo pilot is a danger to their families because they tend to make their angle of attack the same as flying alone and then their whole family dies including them on takeoff.

This is only one way that flying is completely unforgiving.

Another way it is completely unforgiving is trying to land fully loaded at an elevation higher than you are used to. You have to compensate both for the altitude you are landing at as well as the weight you are carrying(everyone on board and all their stuff). If you are not professional enough and detailed enough to think about all this then you and everyone on board dies.

These are two of the most common ways people die in planes and the last one is running out of gas.

For example, John Denver, the singer died while trying to switch gas tanks on his plane and crashed near Lover's point, in the Monterey Area of California in the ocean right off Lover's Point.

However, another point is if you are flying with professional pilots on a jet plane city to city anywhere on earth this is 5 or 6 times safer than driving on a freeway in traffic. So, this is interesting too when you have professionals who have flown for years and have thousands of hours in the air under their belts.
