I asked this question because Trump is considering "Taking" Kharg Island which is an island made of Coral where Oil is stored to load onto Tankers. Though oil is piped to Kharg Island from the mainland it is not the source of the Oil itself.
What's to stop Iran from cutting the flow of oil in the pipelines?
And sending this oil overland to China through Various routes with Tanker Trucks?
It's true it likely would be more expensive to do this but after all Iran and China are on the same Continent.
I think Trump's thinking about Kharg Island the way he is is definitely flawed because of this capacity to move oil overland and to cut the pipelines to Kharg island.
If Iran cuts the pipelines to Kharg Island, Kharg Island will be useless to Trump and the western world.
begin quotes:
- Power of Siberia Pipeline: Delivers major volumes of Russian natural gas directly to China.
- Central Asia-China Gas Pipeline: Transports gas from Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan into Xinjiang.
- Russia-China Oil Pipeline: A major conduit bringing crude from Siberia.
- Myanmar-China Pipeline: Transports crude oil from the Bay of Bengal directly into southwestern China.
Overland imports are crucial for China to mitigate risk in case of a blockade or crisis in the Strait of Hormuz. While major pipelines exist, they mostly serve western China, with coastal areas still relying heavily on maritime imports.
