Basically, it seems like this: "Unless you are prepared to die right now you cannot live forever!"
This is the basic paradox of immortality right there.
Because at best humans can likely live I figure about 10,000 years now and into the future.
Many people don't believe this.
If you don't believe this it is unlikely to happen for you at all.
Consciousness Creates Reality. Reality doesn't create consciousness. Reality creates a type of physical survival. But, this is also true for all the animals we observe. Survival is a reaction to everything going on in our bodies and around us.
However, True Consciousness Creates our long term reality.
What is True Consciousness?
I would call Consciousness really being aware of what is going on inside yourself and around yourself.
However, first you have to accept yourself and become enlightened.
Basically it's like this. If you don't love yourself how can anyone else love you?
So, consciousness either begins with loving yourself or loving others but usually both.
Understanding this is everything.
IF you are so reacting to things inside of yourself and around yourself and not having any time to be with yourself and the life around you then it is unlikely you will reach enlightenment or immortality in this lifetime as a human being.
However, I find that there are exceptions to almost every rule in life too.
So, this kind of thing doesn't appear to be set in stone.
Each person becomes enlightened in their own way.
My actual enlightenment began consciously in Yosemite National Park when I was 15 years old.
I was visiting there with my best friend from high School and we were both sophomore's in high school.
Both his mother and sister took us to Yosemite but then got ptomaine poisoning from the mayonnaise and tuna fish sandwiches they ate on the way there on too hot a day without enough refrigeration of those sandwiches which caused them to spoil. So, in our campsite next to us there was an Air Force coreman (a medic) and he took care of them in their station wagon lying down until they were well enough to function again which took about 1 week. Nowadays these two likely would have been taken to the hospital to recover but remember this is 1963 and I was 15 years old and now I'm 77 writing this.
So, the air force medic realized we couldn't do much so he treated them as best he could laying down in their big station wagon for a week while we as 15 year old boys wandered around Yosemite Valley and climbed up to Vernal Falls and explored the place as two teenage boys. During this process I met God in Yosemite Valley partly because it was the first time I was away from my parents for a week. So, we both loved the wilderness of Yosemite and we loved the Firefalls off of Glacier Point every night. So, Yosemite Valley then in 1963 reminded me more of American Graffiti the movie by George Lucas than anything else then. We swam in the Merced River and jumped off the bridges into the river. We wandered around people racing their street racer cars on the roads of Yosemite. We sort of partied and met people from all over California and the world.
We were set free for the first time in our lives and I met God and it changed my life forever.
And from this experience I decided I wanted to become enlightened in this lifetime so I could help myself and everyone else more because I had seen so much suffering of people in my life. In my parents church I had watched many people die from not going to a doctor because they were sort of like Christian Science and didn't usually go to doctors. I thought this was crazy but I was a child mostly watching adults die and my input in the 1950s wasn't usually appreciated "Children should be seen and not heard" was the motto for children then but not now.
So, even if teenagers or adults killed themselves doing really crazy things we were supposed to shut up about it as children then. So, most of us did so we weren't beaten for giving our opinions or killed by other crazy people.
So, Yosemite and meeting God on his own terms and not just in some book written by people was how I started wanting to become enlightened in every way possible to help myself and all others survive better here on earth and after.
This all is the paradox of Immortality we all face being alive here on earth at this moment in human history whether many of us realize it or not.

NOTE: I realized I needed to clarify this the way i wrote this. I'm talking about human individuals each living about 10,000 years and this becoming more normal starting this century for those capable of doing this. Will everyone choose to do this? Probably not. But, Some like myself will do this if we can manage it.
So, what will you do?
I see forever starting by living each moment like it's your last.
by doing this you might live forever in one way or another.
Like the Sinatra song: "And you can survive to 105 if you're Young at Heart"
I think this is true.
And if you make it to 105 how about 10,000?
But, if you don't believe this is possible how can it happen for you?
