The Mole People of Las Vegas?

The main problem I could see with this is that in deserts living in a storm drain might be okay even 364 days a year but on that last day you are dead if you don't realize water is coming from as far away as 50 miles away where it is raining. So, even though you might be okay most of the time doing this you are going to die one day because of flash flooding one or more days a year unless you hear a weather report in time and they aren't always accurate. So, it's sort of like playing Russian Roulette with a loaded pistol.

begin quotes:

Yes, there is a population of homeless people living in the network of storm drain tunnels beneath the Las Vegas Strip, which was originally built to divert rainwater. These individuals, sometimes referred to as mole people, reside in the darkness and solitude of these tunnels, with numbers estimated in the thousands, and for some, it has become a long-term home due to a lack of surface housing options.
