Because otherwise you could die or be maimed at any given moment instead of becoming what God might want you to become here on earth.
So, it's not about going through terrified of God it is about going through life Unified with God so you are literally "of one taste with God". The saying "being of one taste with the Dharma" is something I heard a lot about while studying with Tibetan Lamas in California, Oregon and India and Nepal during the 1980s. So, I'm adding the phrase "Being of one Taste with God".
Saying this is very very intimate because families and friends eating together is often the most intimate thing that they can physically do together because mostly you are married to one person so eating together is the most intimate thing families and friends can do together.
So, "Being of One Taste with God" is a very very intimate and personal experience one has with God and Angels throughout all time and space and throughout the physical universe.
