People, human beings are not really designed for cities. A City at best is a work of art and at worst it is a nightmare. Living in a nightmare doesn't keep people alive it kills them.
This is why going into the wilderness for a time and slowing down enough to hear the trees and rocks and animals and birds speak to you can be good. But, there is also something to be said for the companionship of other like minded people too.
I found going into the wilderness with one or more like minded friends could be the best. So, you can wander off alone to be with the rocks and trees and deer and birds and yet also have companionship during those days or weeks (somewhat alone in the wilderness).
But, understanding all this is very Freeing.
If you once understand that cities are not a natural place for people to be at all, then you can start your path to enlightenment. Once you see what life is actually all about then if you wish you can spend time in a city because you have discovered your center and you might take your new center back into a city if you are careful and help others there find their center too.
The other problem with cities is all the ghosts of people who have died there over the years or centuries or thousands of years if you are in places like Europe or the middle East or Asia.
Most cities in the U.S. aren't that haunted simply because native Americans didn't build cities so they only started at first only around the 1600s on the East Coast. But, the oldest dwellings from Europe are I think in Santa Fe, New Mexico from the 1500s now.
So, learning that cities are not a natural place for people to live in and that they are sort of like when tribes used to party together more than anything else might be useful.
But, just like Thanksgiving is a party you don't party every day year around or you get unbalanced and might die of alcoholism or a drug overdose constantly going to parties. So, learning balance and that parties originally were families and tribes getting together before there were cities.
You cannot party every day and live a long life past 30 or 40 years of age.
And partying all the time will also unbalance your mind and emotions and physicality too.
So, slowing down in the wilderness enough to listen to the rocks and trees which tend to be older than us and full of wisdom is very helpful if you want to live a long life and be useful both to yourself and to all mankind.
