The new Covid variant was first detected recently in South Africa. The country's Health Minister, Joe Phaahla, said scientists were concerned about its discovery due to its high number of mutations and its swift spread among young people in Gauteng, the most populous province in the country.

This is very serious because younger people 18 to 30 tend to think they cannot die from Covid so they take more risks. If this statement is true and holds true in Europe and the U.S. and other places we could lose a whole lot of younger people not taking enough precautions to stay alive through all of this.
The other problem would be younger people getting infected and not dying but spreading it to older people 30 to 50 or a little older and the older group dying. Because 85% of people over about 55 or 60 are now vaccinated in the U.S.
