Sometimes it really pays to be as intuitive as I have always been. I looked at the waves that were coming up pretty far on the beach but I sensed somehow that I would be safe if I went down there. So, I sat on a rock next to my dog and a wave reached out to me and touched my foot even though I was far from the ocean.
At this point I realized we both could be in danger soon somehow and got out of there. As I was climbing up a rock trail a wave much larger than the others completely filled the beach over 3 feet deep which would have swept my dog and I out to sea. When I saw this I also watched the wave splash in front of me onto the rocks and luckily there were rocks between me and the wave otherwise we would have at the very least got wet.
So, it's not surprise to me that three people are dead between Monterey and San Francisco (likely tourists) from the waves coming in.
By the way the waves could be as high as 30 feet on Saturday again and they are around 15 to 20 feet right now. I took my dog out to do her business in our back yard tonight and I live 1 mile approximately from the nearest beach and it sounded like the waves were crashing in my front yard from my back yard.
So, because of all this I won't be going down to any beaches and walking there until these waves get down to a reasonable size of 5 to 10 feet once again or less.
It's better to be alive than try to take pictures of waves that might kill you if you get too close to a sneaker wave, especially after 3 people have already died this week and 150 feet of the Santa Cruz Wharf is gone and those 3 guys luckily were rescued that went down with that part of the wharf.
Better to be safe than sorry (or dead).
