Part of the reason immigration unrest is so great in Los Angeles is that there are more people from Mexico living in Los Angeles than any other city in Mexico except for Mexico City. It has been like this for a long long time.

Second, Los Angeles and most of California is filled with Sanctuary cities like Los Angeles and San Francsico. I think it's possible that San Diego might also be a Sanctuary city too.

Sanctuary Cities sprang up from mostly Catholic and other Churches trying to prevent the deaths and maimings and starving to death of children in these areas from other countries. 

If you don't live in a border state that borders Mexico then often you wouldn't understand this.

So, a Sanctuary city is about keeping Los Angeles and California more humane. Because existing people who have green cards often kill new people from Mexico or anywhere south of the border because of driving wages down and competition for work.

So, a sanctuary city is about keeping people alive and well no matter what country they were born in. 

Somebody new to California is killed almost every week or so in places like Salinas for example. This is likely much much worse in San Diego and Los Angeles because millions of people likely are here from south of the border there.
