India says it has evacuated its students from Tehran
Indian students in Tehran have been moved out of the city with some expected to leave Iran via Armenia, India’s foreign ministry said on Tuesday.
The Indian government is attempting to facilitate evacuations for its citizens from the country and has set up various channels for people to get in touch with officials, as the conflict between Iran and Israel intensifies.
“Indian students in Tehran have been moved out of the city for reasons of safety, through arrangements made by the Embassy,” India’s foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
“Other residents who are self sufficient in terms of transport have also been advised to move out of the city in view of the developing situation.”
He added that some Indians “have been facilitated to leave Iran through the border with Armenia” and that the Indian embassy in Iran “remains continuously in touch with the community with a view to extending all feasible assistance.”
Iran is a popular destination for university students from India, particularly those studying medicine.
