Tesla's 'self-driving' software fails at train crossings, some car owners warn

There are many things you have to think about when driving a potential self driving car beyond this. For example, my oldest daughter and I are the only ones that feel technologically capable of doing this without freaking out I find. So, understanding and interfacing with the technology is important if you don't want to die.

I tell people it's sort of like (automatic steering) is like putting your 5 year old on your lap and teaching them to steer a car like my father did with me in 1953 when I was 4 or 5 years old to get me used to steering a car and eventually driving. However, he only did this when we were more remote and not in the city driving.

The automatic cruise control works pretty good but even I use the brakes when a traffic jam occurs because drivers behind you might run into you when conditions change really fast even though your car might theoretically brake into the traffic jam. That isn't the problem it would be the drivers behind you running into you because you just stopped too fast on the freeway going into a traffic jam. So, all these automatic features (braking cruise control and steering) are mostly only safe and even then relatively speaking in a less crowded environment. But, steering always has some issues like when it blows off on a corner or up or down hills.

So, if you aren't prepared for this you are going to crash potentially.
