I was talking to someone I know in South Korea today and they were saying it is getting pretty tense today (It is Saturday there while Friday Afternoon here). The problem seems to be that this Time the U.S. is not backing down because of how China has been threatening Japan fishing grounds and Islands and Viet Nam's islands and fishing grounds and the Philippines fishing grounds and stuff. So, one of the reasons this all is getting tense is the U.S. is standing up more to North Korea than in the past because all the dynamics have changed in the Pacific Theater since the last spat with North Korea. Also, with the news that N Korea can put a nuclear weapon on its missile(s) this puts another level onto the tension. Also, North Korea says it's Nuclear Target is Tokyo for this missile. So people in South Korea and Japan are pretty upset at this point. I'm not sure this news is getting back to the U.S. in any news we are hearing here. So, people are worried that if the U.S. shoots down the missile that it might spread radiation over a large area of the ocean or land or South Korea or Japan.
The missile is supposed to go off sometime (Sunday there) but understand right now it is 8am Saturday morning according to my World Clock.
The other problem that especially China, the U.S. and Russia and others are having with all this is this is North Korea advertising nuclear weapons that N Korea wants to sell to Iran and other nations. Also, on top of this it appears that North Korea and Iran are mutually developing missile and nuclear technology interfaces which is upsetting the world too. Also, this is scaring South Korea and Japan into wanting their own nuclear weapons too. So, this is really about 100 things or more at once going on here and no one really knows how this is all going to turn out in the short or long run. N Korea only want money for selling missile technology and nuclear weapons and food. All the bigger nations want world stability so they can conduct business and be successful. So, this is upsetting everyone.
One day Later:
By the way my Tivo had recorded "The Situation Room" with Wolf Blitzer and they information above here has made it's way to the U.S. He reported that the North Koreans were saying they were putting a nuclear warhead on their missile and sending it in the direction of Tokyo. However, no one completely believes this but everyone has to act like they are serious. So, if they really send a nuclear warhead on a missile towards Japan expect it to be shot down over the ocean by the U.S. or if that fails expect some jet fighter to fly into it purposely to bring it down.
