Some of these are really good. This one is about Polytheism. Thor likely helps with this kind of thinking. But also, Odin and Thor, Zeus and Hera and Hercules (two cultural versions of the same concept (Norse and Ancient Greek). Polytheism was there even in Jesus' time too because while on the cross he referred to God as "Eloi" which is Aramaic (his native language). Eloi is a plural noun for God. So, when he said (correctly translated direct from Aramaic), "My God, My God. How you have glorified me!" and then passed out, he was referring to a plural noun for God and not a singular noun for God. I don't think his experience was of a single God possibly because he said "Eloi" which is a plural noun for the Creators of the Universe and most especially our galaxy, solar system and Earth.
Here is Chuck Lorre's parody that is connected to "The Big Bang Theory" in "The Bon Voyage Reaction". Begin quote:
I've been thinking about becoming a polytheist. No, this has nothing to do with missing Battlestar Galactica. And yes, I realize my blasphemous notion flies in the face of a few thousand years of "Ye Shall have no other Gods before me." (To be honest even when I was a kid that commandment troubled me. It sounded like a jealous girlfriend saying, "If I catch you looking at other girls, you're in big trouble, Mister!" And don't get me started on how 'no other gods before me' kinda implies that there might actually be some other gods loitering about.) But my main reason for considering becoming a Pagan (Pagish? Jewgan?), is that it neatly answers the age 0old question, "Why does god allow so much suffering in the world?" When tragedy strikes, the monotheistic aproach can only offer the tired old, "It is not for us to question god's will." Really? why not us? Who else is in the questioning business? But look what happens when we ask the same question from a pantheistic perspective. why do the gods allow so much suffering in the world? Because outside of their particular area of expertise: farming, war, fertility, what-have-you, they are not even remotely in control. The buck stops nowhere. (In this scenario both the old Testament and New Testament deities are off the hook as far as your general suffering is concerned.) But here's the really good news: with a polytheistic approach to prayer we can micro-target our beseeching. Trouble with love? Take it to Aphrodite. Not catching enough fish? Poseidon. Are you regularly waking up from alcohol-induced blackouts in the sleeping compartment of long-haul trucks that carry circus equipment and little people? That sounds like a job for Dionysus. Need your sitcom to get picked up for the Fall Season? Les Moonves. In other words, whatever the crisis might be, there's a god ready to take your call. What are you waiting for? Call now and receive a free goat-sacrificing kit! (Goat sold separately.)

Chuck Lorre Productions, #416
note: You can only easily read this just after the last scene on the TV show Big Bang Theory if you have some kind of DVR which allows you to stop frame just after the last scene in the show. Chuck Lorre puts these little blurbs in for fun so people with DVRs can stop frame and read this funny ditty. Some of them are really good. I really like this one because it questions belief systems. Questioning one's reality usually results in a better reality and life ongoing. Because questioning either makes a person's belief system stronger or it changes a person's belief system to something better and more useful ongoing. Either way the person wins in the long run.
This is called becoming a Free Thinker which was the kind of persons who founded this country and thereby helped the whole world to a better more efficient form of governance. However, looking around now we might need to try to create a more efficient system as the present one has gotten stuck somehow. It is going to take some real tweeking to get something working again here in the U.S.
Hopefully we create something better and not something even less efficient than the one we have now. And Checks and Balances are still ultimately important for a government to work long term through whatever may come.
