We were led to believe that this missile was more of a projectile than an explosive device like a hand grenade. However, while I was watching CNN, one of their reporters showed fragmentation holes in parts of the aircraft. It is much less likely at this point that anyone was left alive from the moment of the explosion of the missile 50 to 100 feet away. The whole fusalage and wings would have been peppered with holes like they were shot by a large shotgun blast much larger in size. So, it is much more likely now that everyone died as soon as the missile exploded through instantaneous puncturing of the fuselage and wings in midair. It is also possible the wing tanks exploded too at this point.
Though on one level this is hideous it also is more likely no one knew what hit them and died mostly and were gone before they were aware of anything at all having changed in their lives.
