Why?
Because elitism separates you from many others and increases the likelihood that one of those others may kill you, maim you or harm you.
By demonstrating compassion to and for all beings you are understanding the ancient Tibetan Saying which is:
"Over time, friends become enemies and enemies often become friends. Because of the nature of life it is in your enlightened self interests to be kind to all beings."
