How I stayed in shape into my 40s

Starting around age 12 I remember running on freeways that hadn't been opened yet for miles around Glendale where I lived and went to Woodrow Wilson Junior High there and then Glendale High School for my sophomore and Junior Year as well. Then I went to Santa Fe, New Mexico to a boarding school for my senior year. Since I grew up from age 5 in San Diego and Los Angeles areas I didn't get to see the snow much after I left Seattle Washington where I was born after age 4 and moved first to San Diego then with my parents and my mother's mother.

So, I found running was the best for me and I continued to run because of how good it made me feel "runner's high" which is the serotonin that goes into your brain from running caused by the exercise. So, people often run to throw off depression a lot around the world because it keeps them happy and alive and feeling amazing!

I found that as long as I found ways of having fun exercising that I would exercise in all sorts of interesting ways like climbing mountains, body surfing in the ocean, boogie boards, surf boarding, riding dirt bike motorcycles across the deserts with knobby tires for traction, skiing, and ice skating etc. etc. etc. But, the point is finding something fun to do in your spare time makes your life worthwhile and you enjoy more being alive!

So, if I had a couple of really good meals and gained some weight during the week then on a weekend I would just not eat and hike about 20 miles on a weekend and I would lose whatever weight I had gained during the week just by drinking only water or orange juice while I hiked the 20 miles through some incredibly beautiful mountains usually. Or I would go surfing with my friends at the ocean. Girlfriends often were a part of these fun ways to get exercise too along the way and later getting married and having kids also was a lot of exercise both at home and wherever we went around the world on trips as our kids grew up.

It wasn't until my 40s where I had to slow down some after going to a podiatrist and she told me that I had hundreds of small fractures in my feet which I realized was from jumping off roofs when I was 9 to 15 years old a lot with my friends onto grassy yards or cement or asphalt.

But, even now at almost 72 I hike pretty regularly I just don't run like I used to and I still ski and hike along the beaches and into the forests of Northern and Southern California a lot of the time still. We have a relatively new 4 month old female corgi that has blue eyes and is a Blue Merle corgi puppy and she and I walk through forests or along the beach a lot now too. Where I live the forests and the beaches will remain open.
