Like Whales or dolphins, Sea Turtles often like being around people

They seem to like the company as long as people are nice to them. But, like with all wild things one has to realize they are in the wilds and if necessary they will defend themselves with their very strong jaws. So, usually I try to give them a wide berth even though they are often curious about people and children and sometimes will come into shore down to around 2 to 3 feet of water deep even and will swim alongside of you or even between people's legs if they are able to. Like I said they seem not to have fear of humans because of all the tourists visiting places like Maui and the other islands that give them attention when swimming or snorkeling alongside of them. People often worry about sharks but sharks usually want at least 10 feet deep of water or more because they always have to be moving in order to breathe water 24 hours a day. Also, most varieties of sharks don't like sand in the water either so this is another reason why they don't usually come inside of where waves break and stir up the sand. Only really little sharks under 3 feet long usually come that close to shore and they usually are more afraid of people. But, even they will defend themselves if they feel threatened just like most creatures on earth including humans.

An adult Sea Turtle is usually over 3 feet wide in a circle with legs and head out beyond that so they are not small.
